A property of a material is a description of that material. They are adjectives that describe the materials.
Here are the adjectives we used to describe the materials in class:
Transparent : you can see through it
Hard: Its strong and hard to break or squeeze
Soft: its not hard and easy to squash, cut or bend
Shiny: it reflects light
Rough: it feels bumpy and uneven
Smooth: its even and flat
Have the children look for things around the house and then have them look and it and touch it and try to describe it.
For example:
A spoon is made of metal so it looks shiny and feels hard.
The pillow is made of fabric so it feels soft.
The window is made of glass so it looks transparent and feels hard and smooth.
